I have a Master’s/MBA/DESS/DEA/Maitrise/Other degree. Can I apply for a doctorate?
A bachelor’s degree (in the US), a first year of a master (in Europe) or the equivalent diploma, representing a four-year course of study (equivalent 240 ECTS) in an accredited college or university, is required for admission to the doctoral programme (Year 1, Master of Science). Non research focused degrees (MBA, DESS) do not permit access to Year 2 of the programme. A complete master’s degree is not required, although many applicants have a master’s degree in such fields as management, economics, engineering, and statistics. Superior academic performance is expected.
I already have a Master's. Can I complete the Msc courses and the MPhil courses at the same time?
No, students must complete the resources courses in the Master of Science and the MPhil sequentially. The programmes are scheduled concurrently, which makes it impossible to compelte both programmes during the same academic year.
When can I apply?
Applications for the Doctoral Programme are opened from November 20, 2017 to January 19, 2018 for the first round of admissions. Fall is the only entrance date (no spring admission). Second round applications are accepted January 30-March 30, 2018.
Will my application be accepted?
We cannot provide you with a preliminary opinion of your application because admission decisions are made by the Doctoral School Council. All applications are reviewed together after the January 4th deadline.
Can I do the doctorate through distance learning?
No, the doctorate is not offered online or through distance learning. While a full time presence in Toulouse is not necessary, PhD students must be able to come to Toulouse to take classes and participate in Doctoral School events. Courses are not scheduled to accommodate working students.
I have been working for a long time. Can I do the doctorate on an accelerated pace since I have lots of experience?
While most doctoral students need a little over four years to finish their thesis, there is no impediment for doctoral students who are ready to defend their thesis in less time. Note that a Ph.D. is awarded for original research, and past publications or projects generally cannot be used alone to complete the doctorate.
What kind of financing do I need to have?
Applicants must have a stable financial situation in order to focus on their Ph.D. Examples of acceptable forms of financial support include part-time or full-time employment, scholarships, CIFRE contracts, or University doctoral contracts. You should earn/receive approximately 1,000€ per month. Applicants planning to live off of savings are generally not accepted.
I am pursuing my doctorate at a University outside of France. How can I receive a letter of invitation to do research at your University?
Please research the faculty members of of the research laboratories associated with the Doctoral School to confirm there is a specialist with whom you may work. After successfully contacting said researcher(s), you may then inquire about being invited for a temporary research stay. Please note requests for letters of invitation in order to consult our library or documentation centers are not accepted.
